WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY | QUARANTINE EDITION

So apparently it's Wednesday?  😂

All of my days are running together and I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe.  I have never wanted to go wander the aisles of Hobby Lobby more than I do right.this.minute.  Get me out of here!!

I'm linking up with Shay and Sheaffer for this month's What's Up Wednesday where we discuss all the things that have been going on lately so here we go!

What's Up Wednesday Graphic

WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO...

I am so over this quarantine-life.  Now don't get me wrong, friends.  I am a homebody and love being at home so ME being forced to stay put is not the problem.  (As long as I can leave to go wander aisles of my favorite home decor stores every once in a while of course.)  The problem is that my favorite "at home" times are when everyone else is gone!  It's just so peaceful and lovely and quiet.  I miss that. 😂  I need everyone else to go somewhere for just a few hours a day!  Ahhh!

I have left the house a few times.  I've gone to Target once, CVS once and Walmart (inside) twice all in search of things we needed.  I've still been able to use Walmart's grocery pickup too which has been helpful.  But I miss the days of being able to just go do what I want, when I want and not have to worry about getting a life-threatening virus because I accidentally touched my face before I washed my hands! Seriously, will this ever end?!

We are now under a "Stay at Home/Shelter in Place" order here in Collin County.  It was announced yesterday morning and I honestly haven't freaked out or panicked about any of this yet but when I heard THAT, I did have a few moments of "Is this real life?!".  And I had to follow it up with some deep breathing.  It's all just so intense when you watch the news.  I've had to limit myself to just an hour a day or I can't sleep at night because my brain starts working overtime.

I know all this social distancing and stay at home stuff is needed. I don't disagree with any of it.  It just freaks me out that it's come to this and is this even working?!  What happens when we are all released back into the wild?!  Does it all just flare back up again?  So many questions we just don't know the answer to.

Sigh.

On a happier note, the family time has really been great.  We are a really tight little family as is, but this has pushed us to a new level for sure!  We're playing tons of board games, working on puzzles and doing this cool diamond art thing I talked about HERE the other day.  (You should check out that post for more info on that in case you missed it.  That stuff is so much fun!!)

We put together a puzzle one afternoon and Craig is now completely hooked.

He immediately started in on another puzzle and worked on it until 1am by himself the other night...then got up the next morning and kept on even more.  😂

Mason has been in the pool a few times now and is so excited for all the warm weather we've got ahead of us this week!  It's supposed to be 87 tomorrow!  Matthew still won't brave the cold water but Mason has no fear.

Yesterday, Mason wanted to paint with me while I worked on Etsy orders so I set him up on the floor next to me.

He also got creative with the sidewalk chalk in the driveway.

Also, I figured this was worth mentioning before you start thinking I love one kid more than the other because you tend to see more pictures of Mason. ;)  Matthew is in 6th grade and will be 12 in a couple of months.  So he doesn't always want his picture taken and posted.  Right now he's got some sort of cut or scrape next to his mouth and he thinks he needs a haircut (he's right about that...they both do...) so pictures aren't really his jam.  Mason, on the other hand, couldn't care less about that stuff and is always happy to smile for me.  So just in case you were thinking "Why does she only post pictures of her younger kid?"...that's why. ;)

Also, Matthew is happiest playing Forza Horizon on the xBox in the media room while Facetiming his buddies.  There are only so many pictures I can take of that.

He is NOT happy when he has to do chores but the kid can vacuum like a champ. 😉

WHAT WE'RE EATING THIS WEEK...

What are we NOT eating?! 🤦‍♀️ I seriously have got to get back on track with my healthy eating or I'm going to end up right back where I started before I did Keto last year! For some reason, I feel like carbs and calories don't count right now?  Haha.

Last night I made one of my favorite low carb dinners though.  Turkey sausage, red onion, and chicken with a side of mashed cauliflower.  Yumm.

As healthy as that is...here's what's also been hanging around our house.

We made cookies the other day and decorated the sugar cookies using our leftover Christmas icing.  We went with the Christmas theme and made a Christmas tree cookie.  Thankfully, these were gone very quickly so the temptation didn't last long.

WHAT I'M WORKING ON...

Well, since there is no hand sanitizer for sale ANYWHERE and we are starting to run low, we decided to make some ourselves!  We saw tons of recipes for this on Pinterest and it's so simple!  You can get the recipe HERE.

We used little hotel shampoo bottles and some travel bottles we had laying around. It totally counts as a science project too, right?!

As for work stuff, I've been sending out teacher name sign orders with the hopes that they'll actually make it to these sweet teachers!  And I've done quite a few of my Holy Spirit signs this week too.

I've been using my own 34oz water tracker tumbler from the shop to keep up those #watergoals...

....and my new can coolers out by the pool when I want to switch to something more adult. ;)

I also added two new prints to my cork earring collection in the shop!  My customers seem to be loving these new neutral leopard earrings...

AMAZON TOP (wearing a small...I also have this in green!) | KANCAN JEANS (wearing Style #6 but I also LOVE Style #2!) | EARRINGS | NECKLACE

And speaking of stuff I'm wearing, here's:

WHAT I'M WEARING...

I told y'all I ordered new Go Walks the other day because I wanted some good neutral ones that would go with just about anything and these are just heavenly, friends.  At first, I thought they might be a little big but it's just that they are roomier in the toes than some of my other and that makes these the comfiest ones in my collection.  Hands down. I wore them when I escaped the house the other day and had to go on my grocery run and I literally forgot I even had shoes on.  If I was going to Disney, these would be the ones I'd wear to walk around the parks all day.

JEANS (STYLE #2) | GO WALKS | RUG

I also just got these new Havaiana glitter flip flops in yesterday and haven't had time to grab a decent pic yet (my toes need some attention before they are photographed) but I will for Friday Favorites.  But look how CUTE!!!!  You better believe I'll live in these this summer!

The soles aren't real glitter but they are still so pretty.  It's just a screen print of glitter so they are still that smooth, soft rubber.  The straps are real glitter though and I worried that the glitter would flake off easily, but even after I thumped it around and knocked it into a few things just to test it, it all stayed put! If any of it DOES start to flake off though, a quick coat of mod podge painted on over it will take care of that. #trust

WHAT I'M WATCHING...

My favorite family bonding activity is watching movies that fall into the category of "this was my favorite movie as a kid!". 😂 We have been watching movies like The Goonies, Jack, Hook, The Truman Show, Rookie of the Year, Little Big League and next on our list is Mrs. Doubtfire.  Craig wants them to watch Gremlins (those little monsters freaked me out as a kid) and we're trying to convince them to watch E.T. but so far they are putting up a fight about that one.

And Craig and I watched Contagion one night (NOT with the kids) and oh my goodness...that movie hit WAY WAY WAY too close to home!  So much of it was incredibly similar to what's going on in our world right now.  Whoa.

UPDATE:  I can't believe I forgot to add this to my original post but had to come back and share because OMG.  Have y'all been watching Tiger King on Netflix?!  It's INSANE.  It gets crazier and crazier and crazier with each episode too.  All of the people they follow around in this documentary are looney tunes.  At first I thought there would be a villain and a hero but nope.  They are all awful and all full on whackadoodle.  But it's an excellent binge-worthy show.  I'm on episode 3 or 4 now and I'm so hooked.  Let me know if you're watching this too!!

WHAT I'M READING...

I've listened to some really great audiobooks this month and my March book review is almost finished.

Right now, I'm currently in the middle of The Overdue Life of Amy Byler and it's so cute!  Exactly what I need when the world around me is going crazy.

The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by [Harms, Kelly]

I got it free through my Kindle Unlimited membership.  (You can sign up for Kindle Unlimited HERE and get 2 free months!!  Not sure when the promo ends though so if it doesn't work, you should be able to snag 1 month free with this link.)

I also finished these books this month:

All of these will be in my March review!

WHAT I'M DREADING...

HOMESCHOOL.  It's bad enough when my kids have homework and now it's going to feel like nothing but homework all day.  To whoever ate that stupid bat in China We don't start officially with homeschool until Monday so we are using this week to slowly get back into some semblance of a routine.  I've made a schedule and today is the first day we are going to attempt to follow it so we'll see how that goes.  It includes doing chores to earn screen time too and they want to know why I put that in when they don't' have to do chores at school. #welcometohomeschool #whereyourmotheristheprincipal

I'm hoping this won't be as bad as it is playing out in my head.  I just know if I have to teach math I'm probably going to end up teaching it how WE learned it back in the day.  ;)  You know...back when it was much simpler and made sense and there weren't 47 steps/diagrams/pictures/"movies" to draw in order to figure out what 75 minus 23 was.
(Teachers who are mad I just said that--I'm sorry!  It's just hard to teach an old dog new tricks and all of that. #loveyall ❤)

And that's about it for today, friends.  As you're reading this, I'm probably dealing with 2 boys who are fighting me on how long they have to read and which one gets the easier chore. 😂 #sendhelp  #andwine

Stay safe, friends!!

  3. It's interesting hearing how different schools/states are doing "homeschooling". I am so fortunate that our school has specifically told us we won't be teaching our kids anything new - it will just be reviewing of information they have already learned. And 1-2 hours a day max. Hallelujah! I am doing my full-time job from home, I don't have time to be a teacher also! Prayers for all those parents out there who have become homeschool teachers overnight!

    1. I'm hoping ours is a 1-2 hours a day max! We honestly have no idea how it will look when they release all the assignments and lessons. I have to work during the day too so it'll be interesting! I hope it's much easier on us than I'm expecting!

  4. We had Spring Break last week and then they started us right on homeschool this week. Ugh! At least I get to work from home while doing it though.

And I am just like Craig on puzzles. Once I start one, I forget all other responsibilities and get irritated if someone in the house thinks we might need dinner that night. Ha!

    1. They are pretty addicting! I worked nonstop on the first one and needed a break after it was finished because my neck was sore from staring down for so long!

Can’t wait for the book review! Also as a middle school math teacher, please do teach your kids the old school way! It’s so much easier when they get to high level mathematics (ie high school and college). Just don’t tell the other teachers I said that 😉😬😆

  6. I had to laugh at your disclaimer; my oldest is 16 and I haven't been "allowed" to take his photo in years. He will bear with me on occasion but I have to check all photos with him before posting any on my blog. My younger two pose!

  7. I gotta get those flip flops!! I'm also dreading the homeschool! We will begin an "online curriculum " on April 6th- whatever that means. I hope it's teacher led- doing homework is already like pulling teeth with my 2nd grader. Good luck to you- I hope it's easier than we're anticipating. 🤞
