Summer Schedules.

Hello Monday!!  Today is the first Monday of our summer vacation which in my mind, should be a nice, relaxing day for everyone.  But unfortunately, most of this week is going to be a little nuts.

Our summers have always been super laid back and go with the flow.  Kind of like us!  (Outside of my Etsy shop anyway.)   The boys are completely content waking up every morning whenever they want, house-hopping with all the neighborhood boys, swimming 20 different times each day in 5 different pools, riding bikes, scooters, hoverboards and just hanging out.

However.  They are getting older and I want them to get to do some fun stuff this summer!  So we've got both boys signed up for a few different camps.

Last year, they went to Pine Cove's Camp in the City which was an all day camp for a week.  They had so much fun but Mason (who was 6 a the time) would fall apart in the parking lot every day after I picked him up because he was so exhausted!

This year though, they are most excited about getting to go to church camp which will be their very first overnight camp.  Super pumped doesn't even begin to describe their excitement.

Matthew is old enough to go to the full camp which is 4 nights and 5 days.  Mason isn't old enough to go to the full camp, but they do have a mini-camp where they spend one night away.  I am way more nervous about this than they are.  Leaving my children with strangers for a week/night?  Is that really a normal thing to do?! It sounds so unnatural!  I'm seriously considering trying to weasel my way into being a counselor or a lunch lady or something.  If I let myself think about it for too long, I start to have panic attacks.  What if they don't have any friends there?  What will Matthew eat? (Pickiest eater in the world.  Seriously.  I can almost guarantee you that Matthew is way worse than your picky eater.  It's not a competition I want to win though.)  How will he call me?  What if he has a nightmare?  Or sleepwalks?

#Jesustakethewheel

I went to church camp every year though as a kid and they are some of my all-time favorite memories EVER.  So I don't like it, but I'll let them go.  ;)

They will also be going to our church's Backyard Bible Club (VBS) soon and I'm pretty sure we'll sign them up for a soccer camp at some point.  We are also headed to Waco for a big family reunion on Craig's side for several days in June plus our beach vacay in August.  So our summer is just busy enough.

But this week it's all about Baseball Camp at the high school from Monday to Thursday from 1-4. One of their best friends will be there too so they think it's going to be so fun to go together. Unfortunately, they are all different ages so I doubt they'll be in the same group.

Now this is where things start to get a little tricky.

Apparently, Mason is playing indoor football this summer which I had no idea about until this weekend.  I remember Craig saying something about "I've got Mason signed up for football already" the other day and I thought to myself "Wow, he's really on top of things!".  I thought he meant for the fall season.  #communicationiskey

So that's fine!  I love watching him play any sport and he is definitely the kid who wants to be doing something all the time.

Last fall's flag football season

Monday night is football practice and Tuesday night they have their first game.  Wasn't expecting that but ok!  Monday and Tuesday are starting to look a little full since baseball camp ends at 4 but we can make it work.

But there's more!  Let's also throw in that Mason made the All-Star team again this year in baseball!! Yay!!!

Oh, and they have practice Tuesday night (after the football game) and the All Star game is Wednesday night.

And then this past weekend, Matthew's baseball tournament got rained out.  So it has been rescheduled for this weekend.

So let's break it down for our first week of summer.

Monday:  Baseball Camp from 1-4, Football Practice 6-7
Tuesday:  Baseball Camp from 1-4, Football Game 6-7, All Star Practice 7-8ish
Wednesday:  Baseball Camp from 1-4, All Star Game 7:30
Thursday:  Just camp!  Yay!
Friday:  Prep for the birthday party on SATURDAY!
Saturday:  Baseball tournament.  And the boys' joint birthday party!

Did I forget to mention that, oh yeah, the boys' big pool party is happening this Saturday?  I'm already exhausted just thinking about this week!!  Matthew will have to leave his tournament by 3 if they aren't already out of it by then.  What can you do?!

I've already gone into party planning mode so I feel ok about the party situation for now.  Ask me again on Thursday and see how I'm doing.  I'm sure I'll screw something up.

We've ordered a giant inflatable waterslide plus we have the pool to keep everyone entertained. And we always have an ice cream sundae bar where everyone can make their own.  It's pretty relaxed which is how I like it.  ;)

Here are a few pictures of past parties.

I try not to stress myself out over their parties but it's hard not to get swept up in all the planning.  I spent 2 hours yesterday making one personalized printable to slip into a frame and sit out on the table with the cupcakes.

So unnecessary but I can't help myself.  They are 7 and 9-year-old boys.  They couldn't care less.

Can I just add that if I had girls, it would be a whole different story?  I would be in Pinterest heaven.

So that's how our week is looking!  Hello, first week of summer!  We are starting it off with a bang that's for sure!  How do y'all do summer?  Are your kids booked into tons of camps or do you just hang out and relax mostly?  This will be our first summer that we are BUSY so we'll see what I like better!

Have a great week, girls!  See you back here on Wednesday!!  Happy Monday!

Linking up with the Hello Monday gang, Johannah and Heather!

  1. we have nine more days of school here in michigan. i've been thinking about our summer schedule and i need to write it down, look at it, tweek it, and do some planning. i workout M, T, TH, F {in the morning}. my son will have summer band M-TH from 9:30-10:30am. my granddaughter has school on M and T from 8:30-12:30. we go to the library once a week. i try to go on one new adventure with the kids each week. we visit a park 1-2 days a week. and hopefully a beach/waterpark once a week. and a good old fashioned "lets read books and take a nap" on a hot afternoon in a cool air conditioned house is always a plus. my son will swim from 5-6pm with his swim team M, T, TH, F. my granddaughter will do t-ball for a few weeks, then soccer. i am so excited for the last day of school!

  6. My fiancé and I had a conversation this weekend about how young is too young for overnight church camp--our 7y/o niece wants to go to overnight camp at the camp where he and I volunteer...he's all for us sending her to the TEN STINKIN' NIGHT SESSION. I'm firmly parked on #TeamDayCamp because she's never even seen the place before. Congrats to your boy on the All Star team!

    1. If I could be WITH them for the 10 days then that would be ok. And by with them, I mean they are sleeping in the bunk above me. ;) Ten nights is a long time! And thanks!! :)

  7. My summers are the same as my winters! LOL We are empty nesters and have a second home in Pismo Beach, Ca. So we try to get over there as often as possible and no grand babies yet! Enjoy it mama. The days are long but the years are SO SHORT! Trust me!

  8. Wow, that's a crazy busy schedule, but I bet they'll be sleeping well every night! I bet they will love church camp. My kids have gone to the Pine Cove overnight camp in Tyler starting the summer after 4th grade. They love it, and the Tyler location is just gorgeous. I like that they break up the camps so that each one has just a few ages. (for example, my son is going to one just for 8th and 9th graders this year.)
