LIFE LATELY.

Hey there, friends!  Happy Wednesday!  Today it is supposed to get up to 89 degrees here in Mckinney, y'all!  What?!  Yesterday, it was about the same and it was absolutely lovely but I wouldn't be mad if it calmed down a bit.  I'd love to keep it around 75-80 for a while which is my sweet spot.  Those are the temps when you can open all the windows in the house and still be comfortable.  But 89 degrees with the windows open can get hot quick.

Texas weather predictions--I believe this week is a good example of that!

Beggars can't be choosers though and I'll take this warm weather over the cold ANY DAY.  Of course, this is Texas though so it shouldn't come as a surprise that we'll hit the 50s and 60s again over the next couple of days before coming back up to that sweet spot I was talking about.  Crazy spring weather.  It keeps us on our toes around here!

Speaking of crazy weather, I don't think I've shared my hail storm pictures with y'all yet!  A couple of weeks ago, I was on my way back home with Mason when it started to hail.  Like REALLY HARD.  We raced to find some cover and the one spot that was left was under a bank's drive-thru ATM.  Which meant the right side of my car was taking a beating while the left was perfectly fine.

It hailed on us for 20 minutes straight.  It was like being under attack.  Mason had been at a baseball buddy's house and we had just left to come home when it all started.  They took these pictures from their driveway.

It was in the 70s before this started.  It went from sunny and hot to looking like a blizzard in 20 minutes!

This was where Mason and I were hiding.

I had a video of it coming down live in my Instastories that you may have seen.  It was crazy!!  Thankfully, my car managed to come out of it all ok for the most part.  Although, I haven't climbed up to check the roof damage yet.  No one can see that though right?  #itsfine

A few days later, it was time for Trivia Night!  I briefly mentioned this in my Friday Favorites a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to share a few more pictures.

This Trivia Night was a fundraiser to support the Mckinney Education Foundation and a group of us decided to enter as two teams.  Husbands vs. Wives.  And it was SO MUCH FUN!

The big guy and I are the worst at taking pictures together.  But we got one!

(Big, fun, CRAZY CHEAP earrings here.)

Each table was encouraged to have a theme so our friend, Kristi, who is super artistic and creative, showed up with a fun Easter theme, complete with Easter basket centerpiece and bunny ears for everyone!

Our first task as a team was to come up with a team name (on the spot!) so someone came up with the Honey Bunnies and it was pretty perfect!

I have to say that our team KILLED IT.  We really did do so much better than any of us thought we'd do.  (Quick-What does wi-fi stand for???)

At one point, we thought we would be smart and put Meagan's husband, Tim, in "jail".  (You could pay $50 to put someone in jail for a full round.  We thought it would be a great idea to put the super smart guy in jail before the "nerd" round.)  Well, one thing us smart girls didn't think of was that other people could pay $100 to get people OUT of jail.  So Tim stayed in jail for about 2 minutes.

And then as the next round was about to start, our entire team was sent to jail but our sweet sweet hubbies.  It was not funny and we were actually super annoyed.  When you're in jail, you can't participate!  That's not fun!  Thankfully, Brooke's mom bailed us all out and then put all those boys in jail for us.  #weloveDenise

They made sure to bring their drinks with them to jail.  (Ok, we did too.)

Did I mention the event was held in downtown Mckinney at Tupps Brewery?  This was my first time there and it was a perfect venue.  The boys especially had no issues with it.  😂

The next night, Matthew had a game. Craig helps coach and so they go early.  When I arrived a few minutes before the game, Craig came over and OH EM GEE!  He had a nasty cut over his eye and it was purple and swollen.  He said Matthew and another player each threw a ball at him at the same time and he only knew about one of them...  #ouch

I spent the first few innings of the game tracking down pain meds for him and getting him ice while he continued to coach.  I may have told him that I'd need pictures of this when he felt a little better.  haha

I snapped these after the game that night.

The next day, he had to get on a plane and head to his next football camp and I grabbed a few more pictures now that it was even more colorful.

Those eyebrows. #blesshim

After Craig left, the boys and I opened all the windows and decided to start a puzzle at the dining room table.  The last time I did this puzzle was when I was pregnant with Mason and Matthew was not even 2.  And my only job was to create life and keep one other alive and well.  And that's it.

I miss those days!

But I digress.  We had so much fun working on our puzzle together until the doorbell rang, their buddies showed up wanting to play and I was left all alone to work it out.  Go figure.

(FYI, I found this puzzle in a 1000 piece set but if you're looking for a 500 piece puzzle, I LOVE this one!!)

Speaking of weekends, last weekend we rat-sat for Matthew's class pet.  Ok, technically it was a guinea pig but calling it a rat was just so much easier.  ;)

This was Oliver.  And I just fell in love with this sweet guy immeidately!  I did NOT see that coming.

He was just so soft, so sweet and so well-behaved.

Matthew has always been my animal lover and he did well keeping up with Oliver and all the responsibilities that came with him.

I mean..Oliver even gave kisses!  #welovehim

Our next pet just may be a guinea pig.  Our sweet Abby (our pup) is 15+ years old now and starting to fade pretty quickly.  We had to say goodbye to her brother, Odie, last year around this time and a year later, she is starting to fall apart in the same way he did.  The next few months don't look good for our sweet old girl. 😞

Last weekend we also had the school spring carnival.  I talked too much to my other mama friends and didn't take many pics so all I have is this.  haha

We left the carnival early so we could get both boys to their 7:45 games across town from each other.  I had Mason and he once again, came home with the defensive MVP trophy for his outstanding pitching.  This kid is GOOD.  I feel weird even saying that since he's mine and I don't want it to come off as braggy but I am such a proud mama every time he's on the mound.  He has some serious natural ability and it makes me excited for what's to come.

And speaking of what's to come...

Oh my heart.  My Matthew is going to be a 6th grader next year.  He'll be moving on up to middle school and in middle school you have to choose an elective.  You can choose art, band, orchestra or choir and Matthew chose band.  (Most of them do, from what I've been told.)

We are not a musical family at all so this is all so new to me.  So last Saturday, they had "instrument selection" where everyone goes in and gets to sit down 1-on-1 with a band teacher to be evaluated to see what might work best.

He went in with the saxophone as his number 1 choice.  Don't ask me why.  He knows nothing about any instrument.

Thankfully, he did great on the sax and look how cute!!!  (OMG I love him so much.  Sorry, Mattie.  I'll stop now.)

He also did great with the tuba, according to the teacher but it was not his favorite.  Too big.  Too bulky.  #hardpass

By the end of the "tryout", the teacher ranked his top three.  First was sax, second was tuba and third was trombone.  But the kids get a say too and he nixed the tuba and kept sax #1 and put trombone as #2.  Unfortunately, the sax is super popular.  Boo.  This means that we won't find out what he got until the end of MAY!  It'll be one or the other but he'll be so disappointed if he doesn't get the sax.

(PS:  If you notice my knee in the bottom of this pic, it's because I was trying to sneakily take pics without embarrassing him while he was trying out each instrument! haha)

He seems to be really excited about all of this which, again, is so new to me and Craig since we were all sports all the time, so I can't wait to see how he does and where this goes.  He doesn't get excited about trying new things EVER.  E.V.E.R. So the fact that he's excited about this is huge.

I most definitely teared up walking into that middle school, by the way.  I can't believe this day is coming so soon.  I still remember when he was a baby and thinking about his first day at middle school (the official "no longer my baby stage") and it just seemed so far away!  And now it's almost here and I'm trying not to hyperventilate.

Deep breaths.

Also, today I'm linking up with Erika and Shay for their Let's Look At... series!  Today it's all about pantries and you can check out my Pantry Makeover from a couple of years ago HERE, complete with updated pics!

See y'all over in the Deals Group, friends!

Did he try the trumpet? If he doesn’t get sax, but was good at tuba and trombone, then trumpet may be perfect. It is a great size too.

  3. Nadine: Yes! It was the first one they tried but she said something about him being much better with the bigger mouthpieces. They crossed the trumpet off the list pretty quick. 🤷‍♀️ I thought that would have been a fun one too!

  6. My husband played the trombone through college and we met in college marching band ❤️ I guess I think he will enjoy trombone, they are pretty cool. If you google some you tube videos with trombones in them he might be inspired. I believe Bruno Mars has horns .
