Pinspiration Project #2 {Painted Kitchen Doors REVEAL!}

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  I am so excited for today's post!!  It's my pretty painted kitchen doors reveal!!

If you've been reading here for awhile, you've probably caught on that I love a good DIY project.

Last Christmas break, the hubs and I tore down an awful wall of mirrors and turned it into a wall of shiplap with builtins.  We still have to add the shelves/cabinets.  Maybe we'll get around to it THIS Christmas!  ;)

This WHOLE WALL was mirrors (4 to be exact) but made to look like one.  It came with the house and we just never cared enough to do anything about it.  Until I got the bright idea to shiplap the whole wall.  #joannagainesismyspiritanimal

We totally ran out of steam after we got through the first half of this project though!  I still don't even have hardware for the cabinets yet!

For now, we've just leaned this big colorful painting up against the wall.  The goal is to have a skinny cabinet with a door on each side of the wall with some rustic wood floating shelves in the middle.  I'll be honest.  At this point, I'm totally over this project and we are ready to hire someone to come finish it for us!

A few weeks ago, I showed you my Pantry Makeover.  I'm happy to report that everything is still in its place and still looks so cute.  This makeover was a total WIN!!

Find that post here.

Lately though, I've been a little obsessed with pretty painted pantry doors.  Since the shop is closed for vacation and I have a few days to just play, I jumped at my chance to get my paint on!

These were my favorite Pinterest Inspiration pics...

(Click here for my Pinterest page and see the source for each picture.  I think most of them are in my Kitchen album.)

I ran up to Sherwin Williams on Sunday and narrowed it down to 4 colors.

I ended up going with the top right color which is called Watery.  Our cabinets are really dark and our granite is a brown and black mix.  So I figured I'd go with the mint color to lighten it up a little.

I came home with my paint and got right to work!  I knew I wanted to paint my pantry door and my backdoor since they are both in the kitchen.  The colors in my house are mostly mint and navy and then I tend to switch up my accent colors every few months.  I am so indecisive when it comes to decorating.  I like everything.  From neutral colored farmhouses to colorful and modern high rise apartments.  I tend to buy accessories and things for my house without really knowing where they'll go or how they'll look.  Not the best idea.   I was not blessed with the interior design gene.  And sometimes I have to reign it in to keep it from looking like my college apartment.

So the first thing I did was wipe down both doors as best I could and take off the doorknobs.

Wait, I'm lying.  The first thing I did was take some "before" pictures while my children threw themselves in front of the camera trying to photobomb them.

I managed to get a real picture of the backdoor without their silly faces.  ;)

(PS-Excuse the curtains.  I know they are crazy long and wrinkled.  They are from Ikea.  And our dog tends to think they are a fire hydrant.  So I have to have cheap ones that I can replace easily until he...well, you know.  That panel in the picture is a new replacement and hasn't been steamed/ironed or hemmed yet.  And I can't guarantee I'll ever care enough to actually do it.  #reallife)

I was so excited to start painting!!

Doorknobs off!  Ready to roll!

I used a trim brush for the whole thing and followed these rules I found on Pinterest to help me.

I painted the first coat and then had to wait 24 hours to paint the second.  Y'all, that about killed me. When I get it in my head that I'm going to do a project, I want to go at it nonstop until it is done.  So painting one coat and then having to wait a full day almost killed me. ;)

The next day though, I got the second coat on, waited a few hours and then put the knobs back on.  I couldn't wait!!!  I LOVED my doors!!!

So after all that, here is the finished product!

(I really should have wiped the smudge marks off on the fridge first!)

This was such a simple project, girls.  It took maybe an hour for the whole thing.  15 minutes, per door, per day.  And the paint was around $25 and the paint brush is maybe $5?  I didn't even throw down a dropcloth.  I had a little damp rag I used to wipe up any drips.  I'm pretty sure it took me longer to clean up my kitchen and living room in order to take these pictures than it did to actually finish this project.

And remember awhile back, when I was on the hunt for a new kitchen table?  I just realized I never posted a picture of it!

Here's what I went with!  I'm still looking for the perfect chairs.

Next on my to-do list for this house:

-crown molding throughout the living room and kitchen
-replace blinds with bamboo shades
-paint kitchen island white

So there's the big reveal!  Let me know if you like it!  It makes me so happy when I see that little pop of color now.

  1. Love it! Where did you get the Misc wire basket? It seems like the perfect thing to hide all of the junk in my mudroom

  4. LOVE the update! Such a small but HUGE change! My front door is robins egg blue-people will knock when they are walking the neighborhood to ask for the color.

    1. I would LOVE to paint my front door! But our HOA is super strict and wants all the houses to look the same. It's probably why I am always wanting to change the inside of our house to make it more unique! I painted the door leading in from my garage a bright turquoise blue a few years ago. I love colored doors! I bet your door looks awesome!

  5. Love your doors!! I never tackle DIY projects but you made that look easy.

I think your island looks incredible so I wouldn't change the color.

  6. Doors look fantastic! It totally gave me the itch to do my pantry and mud room doors. I love your table too. Your honesty about the curtains is refreshing. I am a total neat freak and like my things just so. There are certain items (dust ruffles on beds for example) that I hate to change with a passion and I will do anything to not have to update them. Great job on all your makeovers!!

  9. Love the doors! You totally nailed that DIY! I think your island would look amazing being painted white. We had oak cabinets from the 80's and re-did them 18 months ago. We bought new cabinet doors and hardware and went with swiss coffee. I LOVE IT! I wish I had popped off our granite on the island (its small- like 2x4) so now I want to do that and lighten it up .......but for now I am leaving it be. Thanks for sharing! Looks fabulous!

    1. No, it wasn't necessary since I was painting a darker color onto the white and since I was using the same type of paint. I just have gave it a little wipe down to remove any dust or other gross stuff. 😉 It has adhered and cured perfectly.
