Friday Favorites #43. {Ma}

Today we are traveling to Texarkana, TX to lay my sweet and sassy grandmother, Janet Crain, to rest.  She passed away on Wednesday morning.  It was her 88th birthday.

We knew this was coming for a while now.  Both her mental and physical state had been on a steady decline and hospice was called in very recently.  And while all who knew her mourn the loss of this precious lady, we can't help but rejoice that she is finally back with her love, my granddad (Pa), who passed away when I was pregnant with Mason.  They were married for 62 years and had 5 children.  Four girls and a boy.  That boy is my daddy.  :)

I was lucky enough to be blessed with both sets of grandparents alive and well when I was growing up.  Grandma and Granddaddy (my mom's parents) and Ma & Pa (my dad's parents).  Granddaddy is my only living grandparent now and I'm pretty sure he'll out live us all.  ;)

Ma & Pa (can't get much more southern than those grandparent names!) lived around the corner from us so we saw them all the time.  They were a huge part of my childhood.  I feel like I got a lot of my personality from that side of the family.

There is so much I could say, memories I could share and stories I could tell.  But I don't even know where I would start.  And I'm afraid if I did start, I wouldn't be able to stop.  So I'll just keep it short and sweet.

Ma was just a really cool grandmother.  She made the best sweet tea EVER.  She always had orange sherbert.  And her cherry cheesecake was to die for.

She was also funny.  Like really funny.  She was so witty, had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  She loved going to the casinos in Shreveport with her daughters.  She loved painting her nails in nude shades and had a whole little nail station on the table next to her recliner.

She loved her kids and her grandkids and her great grandkids.  Everyone felt comfortable around her and loved her instantly.

I wish I had pictures of us together handy but I think most of those are in old photo albums.  All of my pictures of her on my computer seem to be with my babies.

She was awesome.  And we will miss her.  But it makes me so comforted to know that she'll be waiting for us in Heaven and we'll see her again.

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary and what is unseen is eternal."  2 Corinthians 4:17-18

    I just posted on snapchat the other day about how my grandparents ALWAYS had orange sherbet at their house. It's been a nice, nostalgic treat for me this week.
