Neil Armstrong & the Weekend Recap.

Hey hey friends!  We are living the Spring Break life over here this week and loving doing a whole lot of nothing.  Well, my kids are.  I've got to work all week like normal but since I work from home (and for myself) I can stop for breaks when I need to and re-work things so we can go to the movies or the park or wherever.  So we'll have to see what Spring Break holds for us this week!

This weekend we had AMAZING weather so I'm hoping that holds throughout the week.  We kicked off Spring Break on Friday with Mason's Living History Museum at school.  He was Neil Armstrong...

...and was just the cutest little astronaut ever!

Matthew rocked the Neil costume 2 years ago.

Oh I love these boys so much!

This astronaut suit was passed down to us from a friend and it has gotten so much use.  My friend's daughter wore it and then gave it to us for Matthew in 2016.  In 2017, we loaned it to a friend and then this year was Mason's turn!  I have no doubt we'll be handing this down to someone else next year.

(Sidenote:  I am doing my best to talk Matthew into a much shorter haircut but man, is that kid stubborn.)

At the Living History Museum, parents, teachers and other students mill around and when they want to hear about a certain person, they have to step on the star in front of that person.  Then the historical figure "comes to life" and gives a short speech about their life.

Mason had worked so hard and memorized his speech before this day but he ended up using his paper anyway as a little safety net.

Craig was there with the video camera.  #proudpapa

And all I can say is thank goodness for dry shampoo when it came time for my picture with Neil.  ;)

I've been toying with the idea of cutting my hair lately...I'm so torn!  Thoughts?

Mason loves his buddies.  Here he is with JFK and Ben Franklin.

And Martin Luther King, Jr., Neil and Henry Ford.  #socute #uncanny

After the LHM, we were encouraged to told we could take our kids home early to get a jump start on Spring Break.  So by 10:30, we were out of there!

Mason jumped out of the car when we got home and grabbed the basketball immediately.  We are so thankful for our sweet neighbors who gifted us this goal a few years ago when their kids outgrew it.  This thing gets so much action.

For the rest of the day, the boys played outside with all their friends, built a fort, got dirty, destroyed the backyard and did all the things boys their age should be doing. #oldschool

And ohhhh Saturday!!!  The weather was just AWESOME and such a tease for what's to come.  I woke up and finished orders on Saturday morning and had all the big plans to get ahead and work through Saturday since Craig was gone to L.A. for a camp and the boys were occupied with all their buddies outside again.  But around lunchtime, I headed downstairs and went to check on the kids and oh. my. gosh.  It felt SO GOOD!!  The sun was blazing and it was a strong 77 degrees.

I can be a master procrastinator and this was one of those times.  Instead of painting Matthew's room, cleaning the house, working on blog posts (ha--like I really do those in advance!), folding the massive amount of laundry in the laundry room or any of the other 100 things that should take precedence, I grabbed the latest HGTV magazine and the Grandin Road catalog and parked myself on my favorite chair by the pool.

Y'all, I sat out there for at least two hours until the boys invaded the backyard.

I can't wait until this yard comes to life again.  It's so sad in the winter.

Sunday was pretty uneventful.  It was cooler (boo) and overcast.  Mason had baseball practice...

...and got to wear his new cleats that arrived about 30 minutes before we had to leave.  I ordered the boys cleats from Amazon this year because it is such a production every year to go shopping at the stores.  They never have the right sizes in the exact cleats they want and there are ALWAYS ALWAYS meltdowns.

So this year, we browsed Amazon instead and it was so much better!

If you need new cleats for your kiddo, Mason highly recommends these.  ;)  And we will absolutely be adding those amazing no-tie shoelaces we love so much to them as well.

Matthew's should be in on Wednesday.  If he loves his, I'll let you know.

While Mason was at practice, I went to my home away from home...a.k.a. Home Depot.

I needed more wood and paint for all the sign orders that are set to ship out this week.

Random tidbit:  I LOVE the smell of the wood aisle.  It reminds me of my childhood and of my granddaddy.  He's cut down trees for practically everyone in my town for decades.  He's always covered in sawdust or sap or just the smell of trees.  He's 83 and still climbs to the tops of trees and cuts branches and chops those suckers down. I wouldn't hate it if he stopped that now though.  ;)

But that was pretty much our weekend.  Thrilling, right?  ;)

Have a beautiful day, friends!!

  9. This is sort of a dumb question, but do you have HD cut the wood for your signs or do you do it yourself? My daughter is into lettering and we want to venture onto wood and not just paper. What size do you usually do your signs in? Your big square ones and the smaller rectangles? Thanks for any info!

    1. I cut all my own wood. :) I use 1x12s, 1x6s and 1x4s most often and then just cut them to whatever length I may need. (Typically 12, 14 or 16"). You can look through my Etsy shop to see specific sizes for each sign. Hope that helps!

  11. Just reading this post BUT I'm debating cutting my hair too. I have days where I'm glad it's getting longer (not as long as yours...it's like in between and driving me CRAZY!). I feel like this is every girl's debate: when it's long, you want to cut it. when you cut it, you miss your long hair. BUT I think you would look awesome with a chic LOB :)
