Friday Favorites #60.

Happy Friday, friends!!

It is June 1st and I could not be happier to see the month of May GO.

This month was pretty awful for the Nall family.  We dealt with everything from stomach bugs and swimmers ear, to broken bones and the death of our dog.  It's been a long 4 weeks but we are looking forward to our first month of summer!

Next week, I'll be back to blogging on a more normal schedule.  I feel like over the past two weeks, my blog has had to take a backseat to a lot of things.  Today though, I had plans to do a fun post full of favorites but every time I sat down to type this up, I was interrupted.

Why??

Because Matthew has swimmers ear.  And swimmers ear is just THE WORST.  He has had swimmers ear all week and I swear, for him, swimmers ear is ten times worse than a broken bone.  His pain is so severe after his Motrin wears off (and before he can take another dose) but there is literally nothing I can do to help him.

I have to stop what I'm doing throughout the day (he's been home) to just rub his back or squeeze his hand while he clinches up with pain.  It's awful.  The outside of his ear is so tender you can't even breathe near it without him screaming and the inside of his ear apparently feels like someone is stabbing him repeatedly.

He wakes up in the middle of the night crying so it's almost like having a newborn again.  I am exhausted.  He is exhausted.  And we are so ready for these stupid antibiotic drops to kick in!

They say it takes 48-72 hours before they start to feel some relief which is WAY too long.  Especially when the only thing that helps in the meantime is Motrin, which you can only give every 6-8 hours but it only lasts for about 3...  #grrrrrrr

Anyway, my week has just gotten away from me but next week I'll be back with my May Book Review and back to regularly scheduled programming.

And as for my Friday Favorites, be sure to check the Facebook group because I'm just going to post all of my favorites there throughout the day.

Today, I've got to finish up the 34 orders that are scheduled to ship today (pray for me) plus my parents are coming into town this afternoon because both boys have baseball tournaments this weekend and Craig is gone to one of his last camps of the season.

I am so ready for everything to just slow downMy shop is on vacation while I try to catch my breath with all of that but should be back in the next week or two.

Please come back next week.  I promise to be more fun.  Sometimes, something's just gotta give though and this week it's been my poor blog.

Have a great weekend!!

  2. Swimmer's ear is the worst! My son got it quite often when he was younger and the best thing I found for the pain was having him sleep with a hot water bottle. He was at least able to make it through the night without waking up in tears. Good luck, I hope the antibiotics kick in soon.

    1. It is awful!! He loves having the heat on his ear but his problem is that it's so painful to the touch that he can't handle anything more than a hot washcloth. We've tried the hot water bottle and a heating pad but even those hurt him. It's so frustrating! And the washcloth gets cold again after just a few minutes. He felt good enough to go to school today and slept through the night so I think we're on the mend! Yay!! Thank you!!

  4. Poor guy. Have you tried alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol? Then you can give him medicine every 4 hours. Hope he feels better today!

    1. Yes! We have been doing that but the Tylenol says every 4 hours and the Motrin is every 6. So after we dose him with Motrin we have to wait that 6, right? I feel like I'm going to overdose him with all these meds!! He slept through the night last night for the first time all week though so things are looking up!!

  5. Sick kids are no fun :( You can try alternating between Motrin (ibuprofen) and Tylenol (acetaminophen) if there are no allergies. So every 4 hours he can take one of them.

  6. Have you heard of homemade preventative drops for swimmer's ear? When I was a kid, we put drops of half vinegar/half rubbing alcohol in our ears every night. Supposedly the vinegar kills any bacteria and the alcohol dries up any water. Worked for us!
